Good morning,

Today’s post is about MakerDAO. As part of writing it, I opened up my first CDP which you may have seen got liquidated instantly. Totally my fault and only ten bucks.

Best part though: I recorded my experience opening up the CDP. You can watch it here. Consider it a quick and dirty experiment for a video series where I dogfood crypto. What do you think? Should I make more of these? If so, what apps should I try next?

On to the post:

Pairing direct properties with emergent ones in MakerDAO

About a year ago, there were ~52,000 ETH locked up in MakerDAO CDPs (Collateralized Dept Positions) to generate the stablecoin Dai. At the time, stablecoins were starting to gain hype but Basis had yet to announce its $100M+ raise from top-tier VCs (now shut down) and fiatcoins weren’t a thing yet. Today, the number of ETH in MakerDAO CDPs is over 2,000,000 and people are using Dai for all sorts of things. But even in those earlier days last year, people were using their Dai for real-world purchases.

Members receive a members-only analysis each week that is timely and substantial. I've been asked to be more opinionated and responsive to current events, so I'll try to do that in this more private forum. If you want my critical take on what matters in the industry, you might enjoy these analyses.

You can see a sample of a members-only analysis here. And a list of all of them here. Don't take it from me, check out these tweets from members:

  • "@tonysheng's writing is the best out there and this is worth every penny" --Myles Snider, CEO of Aurora EOS
  • "Highly recommend signing up for a membership if you're full-time in crypto or passionate about the space" --Spencer Noon, Managing Partner at DTC Capital
  • "All signal, no noise" --Zach Segal, Product at Coinbase

Over time, I'd love to develop more benefits like transcripts of podcasts (maybe host my own), a members-only discussion forum, AMAs with industry leaders, and more.

Thank you. I hope you'll stick around.

–Tony
